Bear Tooth Theatrepub Review in Anchorage AK

For those of us that call Anchorage Alaska home, including your team at Northern Lights Massage Center in Anchorage, we are lucky to have a place like Bear Tooth here for us. Down south, the concept of a theater and a pub is not new or limited. Some cities on the west coast have dozens of them. Here in Anchorage, we have one. And we are lucky that Bear Tooth rises to the quality that it does. Bear Tooth is situated centrally in Anchorage's Midtown right of Northern Lights Blvd and Spenard Rd. Since Bear Tooth is a "Theatrepub", (no spellcheck required, this is indeed how it is officially spelled) we need to consider the theater aspect as well as the pub aspect of the business. We will start with the theater side.

Bear Tooth Theatrepub in Anchorage

Bear Tooth has a single screen, so be sure to look at what they have playing throughout the week when visiting their website. Often the earlier movies are more family-oriented and the later movies are more adult-oriented. The movies are not usually blockbuster releases, though they do get newer movies, just a few weeks after their release in larger cinemas. To date, My family and I have seen multiple kids' movies there including some major Disney releases as well as the excellent new Playmobil movie aptly titled Playmobil: The Movie. As the father of two children under the age of five, I have not seen any of the later, older audience movie releases at Bear Tooth. The layout of the theater is well designed to support food and drinks, with just about every seat having a table in front of it. I prefer the private booths in the back, but those tend to be sold out well in advance, so if you want one, get it online at least a week ahead of showtime. The regular seating is nearly as good, but a bit harder to manage with little people wriggling around. That is another plus of Bear Tooth. It is very family-friendly and my wife and I never felt weird bringing our kids to the theater. The picture quality is good, and the sound is set a bit lower than other theaters so it doesn't hurt the kids' ears.

Menu

Bear Tooth also has a fairly robust menu to order from for food while the movie is playing. Besides the usual fare of popcorn, candy, and soda, they have sandwiches, salads, pizzas, wraps, and appetizers to enjoy with your movie. The prices aren't bad, and they even have a 24-ounce draft beer for sale separately in the theater itself. Plan on arriving early to get settled and order your food before the movie starts. A couple of times when I got there a bit late, I missed the early minutes of the movie waiting to order our food. The food itself is pretty good, though my wife and I haven't had great luck with the salads, which are merely decent.

Entertainment

Bear Tooth also puts on special shows and concerts. My wife and I attended a special viewing of a period-piece about Queen Victoria that I cannot remember the name of once, which was fun, but very crowded as it was free. We also went to a Norah Jones concert which was incredible. We got there 2 hours early and were the 4th party in line. Because of this, we got to see the show front and center, which made it all that much better. If you live in Anchorage and have yet to pay a visit to Bear Tooth, give it a try sometime soon, I have a feeling you will enjoy yourself!
